Memorial Day weekend we went with Nick's family to Dallas. We stayed right next to Ranger Stadium and Hurricane Harbour and had big plans to play all weekend.
We got there Friday night to find out the Rangers games were sold out all weekend. But because our rooms were so close and facing the stadium we were able to watch the firework show from our room Friday night after dinner.
Saturday morning Madi woke up with fever but I wrote it off as a new tooth because a few weeks earlier the same thing had happened (very high fever and no other symptoms) We went to the doctor twice and they insisted nothing was wrong! Since we were on vacation I decided to just give her some tylenol and go on as planned.
We got to the water park and within 30 minutes Madi was asleep on a lounge chair!
When she finally woke up Mason was done looking and ready to go to the hotel pool.....lesson learned the kids are still a little young for such big attractons! They were both completly overwhelmed!
Madi still had fever so the boys went to the pool and Madi and I stayed in the room and napped again. I should have seen a few warning flags by now since Madi doesn't even nap once some days let alone two naps by noon?!?!? When she finally woke up again I took her down to the pool hoping the water would help break her fever that had once again spiked.
The pool was chilly but great so we decided to take our chances with the rest of vacation! The last time Nick and I went to Dallas alone he got Mason's name tattooed on his back (Madi was young and tattoos are expensive!) We thought it was a smart idea to get Madi's name done this trip since they are both into letters and Mason informed Madi that daddy didn't love her since her letters weren't on his back!!! We did talk to Mason about this but it was time to get Madi's name done!
We took both kids to the tattoo parlour thinking it would be less then an hour and their were tons of pictures to look at.....yes I know maybe not the best idea since Madi was still running fever! Madi let us know very quickly that she was not going for this and that we needed to go back to the hotel. We had already promised Mason Chuck-e-Cheese for supper so we compromised and had a pizza party in the room!!
This may have been Madi's favorite part of the trip cupcakes and pizza while jumping on the bed!!
Sunday morning we got up and headed home early since it was becoming clear that Madi was really sick, she was running very high fever and starting to cough. Sunday night I finally broke down and took Madi to urgent care when she started drooling uncontrollably.
Yes I win....Worst Mother Of The Year Award.... she had a 104 fever and full blown strep throat with an abscess in her throat. It took all I had not to break down and cry with her at the doctors office. And no unfortunately the story does not end there....Since it was a Sunday night and a holiday weekend we had to see a different doctor, someone the kids were unfamiliar with. So when he came in an said Madi needed to get a shot Mason started to cry and begged that he not shoot Madi dead....(try explaining to an upset 3year old the difference between a gun shot and a medicine shot!) Thank the Lord Madi got to feeling better quickly and said she forgave me for not taking her sooner!!
The above picture is of Mason and Mr. Frog, he has had Mr. Frog since birth and seldom puts him down. If you know Mason you have probably met Mr. Frog. I left another important piece out of our non-awesome weekend in Dallas. We lost Mr. Frog...
Friday afternoon when we checked into the hotel we had to valet and hurry out of the car because the hotel was so busy. And if you know me it took a little while to unpack (since I never travel light!) It wasn't until almost midnight that we realized Mr. Frog was definitely missing. We were two hours from home and had made a few stops and Mason was heartbroken about his froggy. It took over an hour of phone calls and many many messages until we found him at the hotels front desk. We were all so relived and Mason didn't put him down the rest of our non-awesome trip.
We hope you all had a Happy Memorial Day and we are very thankful for everyone who has served our country. I think next year we will be staying home to celebrate!
